GET TO KNOW CONCERN

Meet our team.

Meet our executive board.

Executive Board

Jackie Gottlieb
Chairperson

The Concern Foundation has been an integral part of my life since we founded it in the 1960s to honor my dear friend Beverly Wolman of blessed memory. As the first president of Concern Foundation, I am honored to take up the mantel of Board Chair more than 5 decades later. It has been a joy to watch Concern grow from a fledgling group that my late husband Stanley and I helped start, to a world-class organization that has raised over $75m and touched thousands of lives over the years all while advancing the science of cancer research. As we gear up for the 49th and 50th Block Parties I look forward to working with everyone to continue to grow this organization that emanated from my heart.

Our Team

Derek Alpert
President

Derek Alpert began his leadership tenure as full-time President of Concern Foundation in September 2001. He began his association with Concern as a volunteer helping family friends set-up the organization’s annual Block Party on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. He became actively involved in 1979 as one of the original founders of Concern 2, the “young adult” second generation of Concern. He served as the Concern 2 volunteer President for over 12 years.

Before taking on the role of full-time President at Concern, Derek had a very successful 26 plus year career as a music industry executive as Vice President of Motion Picture Music at Rondor Music Publishing the music publishing division of A&M Records.

As president of Concern, Derek oversees all aspects of the organization with a staff of three full time employees. Responsibilities include fundraising and fund development, donor development, developing new business strategies and alliances, event organization and planning of all Concern fundraising and “friend-raiser” events, community outreach programs, developing and maintaining private and corporate business partnerships, working with our Scientific Review Committee and Concern’s Finance, Oversight and Investments committees. He along with his staff develop in-house all marketing materials, social media campaigns and continue to develop new opportunities to inspire a younger generation to get active and involved.

Derek is a board member of several other non-profit organizations both within and outside the cancer community. His board activities include active membership on the advisory councils of both the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases, founding and current Executive Board member of Piece By Piece a social-enterprise and creative arts program in downtown LA’s Skid Row.

Megan Mulcahy
Director of Events and Outreach

Megan is a Los Angeles native and has been working with CONCERN since 2011. She has worn a lot of hats over the last decade with Concern Foundation, where some of her favorites involve working with pediatric cancer patients, educating donors about the work being done by our research award recipients, and working on the Block Party--Concern’s signature event--to make sure each year is better than the previous one. Outside of work, Megan enjoys baking, gardening, and board games.

Wendy Ohye
Director of Events and Outreach

Wendy has been a part of the Concern Foundation team since 2018.  As Director of Events and Outreach, she oversees Concern’s participation as an official charity partner of the Los Angeles Marathon and LA 5K, while managing sponsorships and donor relations throughout the year to support ongoing fundraising efforts. She is also instrumental in promoting the foundation’s mission to conquer cancer. Wendy holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California and a Master’s in Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills, bringing both expertise and dedication to her role.
